Second Photographer | “Do I REALLY need a second Photographer?”

“Do I REALLY need a second Photographer?”. This seems to be a question a lot of couples ask themselves during the wedding planning process, so I thought with recent events it was a perfect opportunity to write about it.

There are so many reasons that having a second Photographer is incredible, but recently I had something happen that could have been catastrophic if I didn’t have a second shooter with me… Long story short, while photographing family formals outdoors I took a pretty bad fall, twisting my leg and landing on my knee. I knew immediately that I was injured since baring any amount of descent weight on it was immensely painful. Within minutes my second shooter and I devised a plan to ensure the entire day was Photographed as expected, and I’m so thankful to say that everything went beautifully with her amazing help. While I was able to tough it out for most of the day, I did end my evening in the ER to hear the bad news about my knee, while my second shooter stayed to finish out photographing the dance. Without her help I would not have been able to make it as long as I did that day, and I am so thankful to have had her there! It was such a smooth process managing what could have been a crisis, because we work together so often that she knows my style like the back of her hand, as well as knows what to expect and what we need from the day to deliver a gorgeous gallery.

Aside from being emergency backup onsite, Second Photographers also provide the ability to tell a more well-rounded story, provide assistance during family formals to keep them moving quickly and smoothly, can photograph the Cocktail Hour should photos be scheduled with your main Photographer following the ceremony, and so much more.

So the next time someone asks if they really need a second Photographer my answer is undoubtably, YES!

……. and for those of you who were wondering…. my leg is still attached  😉  LOL, but I did tear my Meniscus and with a few weeks of (mostly) R&R it should heal itself.
