Retouched photo Before & After | The difference editing and retouching can make

Getting to be a newborn photographer once and awhile gives me my baby fix while getting to see the families I love grow, which is so cool to be part of! While editing this little one’s session I thought it was a perfect chance to give you a peek into a photographers “magic hat”. For most Photographers, the ultimate goal is to capture images exactly the way we want them straight out of camera, but sometimes images need a little extra TLC in the form of editing. This little guy is incredibly handsome, however he has what many newborns often experience after their arrival to this big world… dry skin, a bit of baby acne, red patches and scratches. Below you see the image before it has been edited and retouched (left), and the finished edit with retouching (right).

STANDARD EDITING is any adjustments that can be done without altering any part of the image itself. This means things such as making adjustments to brightness, skin tone, contrast, etc. In standard edits images do not have things removed, re-shaped or anything that will change any part of the photo.

RETOUCHING is anything that actually alters the image itself. This includes everything mentioned above in a standard edit, plus additional enhancements such as removing the scratch from this little guys nose, clearing up skin of any blemishes or patchy redness, removing any distracting people or things from the background, fixing fly away hairs, etc.
